The Securities Market which informally existed in Trinidad & Tobago for well over twenty years prior to the opening of the Trinidad & Tobago Stock Exchange really achieved significance in the early 1970’s when Government decided as a matter of policy to localise the foreign owned commercial banking and manufacturing sectors of the economy. The thrust of the policy was to get such companies to divest and sell a majority of their shares to nationals.

The Bahamas International Securities Exchange Limited (BISX) was incorporated in September 1999. In May 2000 BISX successfully launched its domestic market for the listing and trading of local public companies. BISX is formally Registered with the Securities Commission of The Bahamas as a “Marketplace” pursuant to the Securities Industry Act, 2011. As a Securities Exchange, BISX is vested with the authority and responsibility to regulate its Members and Listed Companies in accordance with BISX Rules.
Barbados Stock Exchange

The Barbados Stock Exchange (BSE), formerly the Securities Exchange of Barbados, was re-incorporated on August 2, 2001 with the passage of the Securities Act 2001-13, which also enabled the establishment of the Barbados Securities Commission which, on April 1st, 2011 was subsumed by the Financial Services Commission (FSC). The BISX Rules operate to ensure fairness and transparency for all market participants.
